I'm with you Emmanuel. So is Merriam-Webster: "Begging the question means 'to elicit a specific question as a reaction or response,' and can often be replaced with 'a question that begs to be answered.' However, a lesser used and more formal definition is 'to ignore a question under the assumption it has already been answered.'"

Acton’s law probably explains a good part of this. As does First Things’ 8/1/2016 article by Matthew Schmitz “Donald Trump, Man of Faith.”

The left has supported "many" of Trump's policies? More than the single one you mention? And that was actually an act of generosity on the part of a statesman who is far more willing to concede agreement when merited than is ANYONE on the right. Other than that, I agree that blind loyalty is the hallmark of this administration and very revealing about exactly who Trump is: "personality predicts policy".

As a Harvard student, you should be aware that "beg the question" does NOT mean prompts one to ask a question. It refers to the assumption that a question has already been addressed and answered. It's a formal logical fallacy. But if you wish to eschew logic, which is suggested by this article, go ahead and use the uneducated version. Also, this sentence is semi-incoherent. This kind of writing does not inspire confidence in your position, unfortunately.
